How Much Did Jennifer Lopez Get Paid to Dance With a Car?

Jennifer Lopez, AMA'sWhat was up with J.Lo performing in front of a car at the American Music Awards? Has she really become that big of a sellout?
—Shooter, via the inbox
You mean you haven't been waiting for weeks just to see Jennifer Lopez perform her electrifying Fiat commercial in front of a live audience?
And what's your problem? I hear the Fiat was totally down to Earth when he was rehearsing in the green room. As for exactly how rich Lopez got for burning that Fiat image into the back of your corneas, I have the answer:
RELATED: Jennifer Lopez, Working Mom
And...it's a lot.
Remember, this wasn't just a one-night stand between Lopez and the Fiat. They've been together for months, doing TV spots, that kind of thing.
Marketing and product placement experts call this sort of relationship a "fully integrated campaign," where the star times her projects around the brand, and the brand times its rollouts around the star's projects.
In this case, Lopez, who earns a reported $25 million a year, could easily have commanded a seven figure sum, says Amy Tunick president of Alliance, the entertainment marketing division of Grey New York.
And good for Lopez, marketers tell me.
Such deals are "not seen as selling out anymore," Tunick tells me. "It's seen as a way for celebrities to expand their message and create authenticity" within their work.
In other words, more and more stars are partnering with companies as a way to keep on entertaining, often in new ways, while making extra money.
Lopez isn't alone, after all; Ron Howard and his daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, recently collaborated on a short film in connection with the camera brand Canon.
According to Sandra Carreon-John, senior vice president of M&C Saatchi PR, this likely won't be the last time you see a star on stage with a great big product in the background.
"For brands, it's getting tougher and tougher to cut through the clutter," especially with an increasing number of viewers doing the DVR thing. "You're going to see more and more brands doing integrations with shows."

Dancing With the Stars Almost Over: Kim Kardashian Returns to Cheer on Rob in the Finals Read more

Dancing With the Stars may be the last place where it's not so bad to have someone screaming "nine-nine-nine!" at you.
The 9s were music to the finalists' ears Monday, a night where the judges were rather stingy with their 10s—and, in one surprising case, Len Goodman was even stingy with his 8s!
But here's a hint as to who scored the first perfect 30...
READ: Final DWTS Odds: Is J.R. Martinez Still the Man to Beat?
Khloé Kardashian Odom and Kourtney Kardashian were jumping up and down, clapping and squealing like loons. So guess who got the 30?!
Sure enough, Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke were the first to burst through the 27 ceiling tonight, earning a perfect 30 (their first of the competition) on their retro, Charleston-utilizing freestyle.
"This competition is often won or lost in the freestyle round and to get a 10 you have to blow us away. Consider me blown!" raved Carrie Ann Inaba, Rob's most avid supporter at the judges' table throughout the season.
READ: Backstage at DWTS: Hope Solo Leaves in Tears! Plus, Is J.R. Martinez's Ankle OK?
J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff were hot on their heels, though, with their '80s hip-hop/samba mash-up that, like a scene from Step Up, made you want to get up and dance with them.
But, though they got a 30, their first dance, a cha-cha, was deemed "not very good" by Len and netted them only 24 points.
With Ricki Lake and Derek Hough getting nothing but 9s tonight, that means Rob finished in first place on the leaderboard for the first time. And what a time!
Watching proudly along with the rest of the family, Kim Kardashian was in the house for the first time since announcing the end of her marriage a few weeks ago.
MORE: Rob Kardashian calls Kristin Cavallari-Scott Disick hookup rumor "100 percent untrue"
"Did u guys see that!!!!!!" she tweeted afterward. "All 10's in the freestyle!!!! OMG I swear the whole fam is in tears!!!!! Let's go baby! Team CherBert!"
Here's how the leaderboard stacked up:
Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke: (27, 30) 57
J.R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff: (24, 30) 54
Ricki Lake & Derek Hough: (27, 27) 54
A new Dancing With the Stars champ will be crowned tomorrow following performances by all of this season's contestants—including another dance from the finalists that will count toward their final scores—and music from Lady Antebellum.
This would be the third win for Cheryl and the fourth for Derek, while Karina is still seeking her first DWTS title.
Who do you think deserves the mirror-ball trophy this year?

Dancing with the Stars: Who Had the Highest Score?

Dancing with the Stars: Who Had the Highest Score?

Dancing with the Stars: Who Had the Highest Score? | Brooke Burke, Tom BergeronIt was '80s night Monday on Dancing with the Stars, but did any of this season's contestants score a much-coveted perfect score: 30?

Not quite – but J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff came quite close, dancing their way to 28 points (and the top of the leader board) thanks to a sultry samba.

"You are like a shattering sex machine," Bruno Tonioli, who awarded the couple a perfect 10, told Martinez. "You're like a volcano!"

Last week's top-scorer, Ricki Lake, fell down a few notches this week, earning a total of 24 points for her foxtrot. "It didn't gel," Tonioli told her. And Len Goodman scolded, "Your footwork was a little hit and miss. Having said that, it wasn't your best dance, but it wasn't your worst."

The night's other high scorers included David Arquette, with 25 points, and Rob Kardashian, who also received a 25. He and Cheryl Burke danced a rumba to Lionel Richie's "Hello." "You were sexy as heck," Carrie Ann Inaba told Kardashian after the dance, "even in a bright green shirt."

Nancy Grace was pleasantly surprised by her score, even if she looked a bit worried immediately after her performance. In total, she earned 22 points for her rumba – and even nabbed 8 points from Bruno, who said, "I think it was your best performance."

Chaz Bono also rebounded this week with 21 points for his samba.

Other notable moments from Monday's show:

• Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy's tango to "Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi earned 24 points from the judges. "I like the aggression and attack you put into it," Len Goodman said, after awarding the couple an 8.

• Unfortunately, Carson Kressly had another disappointing week. While the judges praised his personality, his jive wasn't exactly their favorite dance of the night. Kressly scored 19, as Inaba told him: "I just didn't see much technique anywhere. And I'm really trying."

Sue Mengers dies at 79; top talent agent

Star agentSue Mengers, an unapologetically brash talent agent who blazed a path for women in Hollywood and represented some of its biggest stars, died Saturday night at her Beverly Hills home after a long illness. She was 79.

For two decades, Mengers was one of the entertainment industry's most powerful agents, rising fast in a business dominated by men. She earned a reputation as a skilled negotiator who was both tough and uncensored in her style. She had a knack for putting together packages of talent, including authors, directors and stars, that produced box office blockbusters. In one coup, she landed three of her clients —Barbra Streisand and Ryan O'Neal and director Peter Bogdanovich — in the 1972Warner Bros. comedy "What's Up, Doc?"

"Sue was a valued colleague and friend for many years," said International Creative Management Chairman Jeff Berg, who worked with Mengers for 16 years and was her boss at the talent agency. "She had an incisive wit, sharp tongue and great creative instincts."

Among the Hollywood luminaries Mengers also represented over her career were actors Faye DunawayCandice Bergen,Steve McQueenNick NolteBurt Reynolds and Cybill Shepherd, directors Sidney Lumet and Brian De Palma, and writer Gore Vidal.

"I worked with her when she was at ICM in her absolute heyday. She gave meaning to the word 'woman power,' " said longtime Hollywood agent and manager Joan Hyler. "She was arguably the most famous agent of her time. And the fact that she was a woman and fearless was quite extraordinary."

Born in 1932 in Hamburg, Germany, Mengers didn't learn English until she was 6, when her family immigrated to New York to escape the Holocaust. Her family settled in upstate New York, in Utica, where her father worked as a traveling salesman.

Mengers' father committed suicide when she was 11. She and her mother relocated to the Bronx, where her mother took a job as a bookkeeper. Mengers would attend Saturday matinees to escape the pain of losing her father and dreamed of one day becoming a star.

Ultimately, Mengers achieved celebrity in her own right. She was profiled on CBS' "60 Minutes," and served as the inspiration for the acid-tongued blond portrayed by Dyan Cannon in the 1973 whodunit "The Last of Sheila."

Mengers started her career in 1955, working as a receptionist at MCA Inc. talent agency, whose roster of clients includedJack BennyGeorge Burns and Gracie AllenMarlon Brandoand Montgomery Clift. She was later hired as a secretary at the theatrical agency Baum & Newborn, before landing a position with the William Morris Agency as a $135-a-week secretary.

Mengers left William Morris in 1963 when Tom Korman, a former Baum & Newborn colleague, invited her to become a partner in his agency, Korman & Associates.

"I never thought in my life I'd get a shot at being a talent agent — or even get out of the secretarial mold," Mengers told the Los Angeles Times in a 1993 interview by phone from her apartment in Paris. "We're talking 30 years ago. The only female role models around were literary agents wearing hats."

Her first client was actress Julie Harris, an accomplished Broadway star who was interested in appearing in the TV western series "Bonanza." Mengers contacted the producer, who commissioned a specially written episode for Harris.

In 1967, Mengers was spotted by Freddie Fields and David Begelman, co-heads of the then high-powered Creative Management Associates, which later became ICM. They asked her to head the company's legitimate theater department. A year later, she moved from New York to Los Angeles, where she became known for star-studded parties that were among the most coveted invitations in Hollywood.

"I never invited anyone who wasn't successful," Mengers told the New Yorker in an 1994 interview. "I was ruthless about it. It was all stars. I would look around my living room at all of them and even I'd be impressed with myself."

A 1973 Time magazine profile of Mengers, during the apex of her time as a Hollywood power broker, described the 5-foot, 2 1/2 –inch, 160-pound agent her as "a cross between Mama Cass and Mack the Knife. She has the soft, breathy voice of a little-bitty girl, the vocabulary of a mule skinner and the subtle approach of a Sherman tank."

Mengers was well aware of her brazen, direct style.

"I was tactless, contemptuous and made enemies needlessly," she said in the Los Angeles Times interview. "If I had to do it over again, I'd take on a bit more of the personality of (former Paramount Pictures chief) Sherry Lansing, who has the ability to make people feel good. I rolled in there like a tank … but in any revolution you have to do something to get their attention. Women don't have to act like that these days."

Mengers quit ICM in 1986, claiming she had burned out. Two years later, the William Morris Agency lured her out of retirement with a lucrative three-year contract to run the agency's worldwide operations. But she was unable to stop the defections of top talent that plagued the agency during that period, or sign new clients of her own. She left the agency in January 1991.

In her later years, even though she was out of the business, Mengers' pink home in Beverly Hills continued to be a salon for agents, movie stars, authors and filmmakers to talk shop over meals.

"At dinner she was a great raconteur. There was probably nobody funnier," said ICM agent John Burnham, who worked with Mengers at William Morris. "Woody Allen just marveled at her rapier wit and storytelling."

Mengers was married to Belgian writer-director Jean-Claude Tramont from 1973 (Streisand was her maid of honor) until his death in 1996. She leaves no survivors.

When she died Saturday, Mengers was surrounded by friends, including talent agent Boaty Boatwright, actress Ali MacGraw and Joanna Poitier, wife of actor Sidney Poitier.

"It's the end of an era," said "Twilight" producer Karen Rosenfelt, who was Mengers' secretary at ICM in the early 1980s. "She was a fiercely loyal friend and agent to her clients. She broke the glass ceiling for many women in the industry. She was a guiding light in my career."

The Big Year – Film Review

imagine The Big Year is about as entertaining as a PG-rated movie about bird watching can be. It’s the only one I’ve ever seen, mind you, but I’m confident in that respect.
Brad Harris (Jack Black) is a divorced 36-year-old living at home, who hates his job. His biggest passion is bird watching, or birding. He decides to do a “big year,” i.e. see as many birds as he can between January and December. At the same time, Stu Preissler (Steve Martin) has decided to retire (for the third time) from the company he owns and do his own big year. The man to beat is Kenny Bostwick (Owen Wilson), who holds the record for most birds seen in a big year, and is out to break his own record. But his wife’s longing to start a family may prevent him from devoting himself fully to birding.
Thankfully, The Big Year isn’t strictly about birding. Each of our three main characters either grows, or learns a lesson on a personal level. Depending on which character you’re invested in, the film is either about the value of making money vs. the value of doing what you’re passionate about, or the value of fame vs. the value of a family.
This is a pretty safe movie. You could watch it with your grandmother sitting next to you and not be embarrassed by anything. In an industry that’s largely dominated by largely vulgar or gross out comedies, there’s definitely something to say for that. This movie could easily have consisted of Black and Wilson running around on screen making bird noises and poop jokes. Truth be told, it probably would have made more money that way. There’s certainly a refreshing aspect to a movie that takes the road less traveled and lives and dies by its own sword.
Unfortunately, while the movie’s message is heart-warming and genuine, there’s a dullness about this film that I simply can’t get past. It takes awhile to get into the characters’ personal conflicts, which simply leaves us with a lot of talk about birds. Most of the jokes fall flat, the characters are pretty one-dimensional, and some of the dialogue is downright corny. It’s one thing to be a comedy in 2011 and not take the vulgar route. It’s another thing to simply be a movie that’s difficult to sit through.
The Big Year is a decent film if you’re patient enough to let it get interesting. But even then, it’s only mildlyinteresting. It’s definitely not a film that will hold up to repeated viewings. I’m tempted to make a “for the birds” joke here, but I’m going to pass.

Lohan: I am not to be made an example of:

The story is that there is no story, according to Lindsay Lohan.

Story: Report: Lohan booted from community service program
A source close to Lohan even told E! News that she isn't at all concerned about her court date. "Things always seem to go Lindsay's way with the judge and I think people are making a big deal out of this for nothing. I think she's going to be fine," the insider said.

"I am not to be made an example of anymore," she tweeted today.
"I am working hard and fulfilling my obligations every single day, to the court as well as myself. If I travel, its [sic] for work and its been approved. As is anything I do when I leave the state. I'd appreciate it if people will just let me do what is asked of me, so that I can get my life back. Please ignore the reports which have no truth to them. Thank you."
Lohan's rep denied last month that she was dangerously behind on the 480 hours of community service she was sentenced to back in April. But a seeminglysudden switch from working at Los Angeles' Downtown Women's Center to an administrative-assistant post at the Red Cross got people wondering if she had messed up one too many times at the shelter and was booted.

The actress herself says she's on the up-and-up, but we'll know more once she gets to court on Wednesday.
"It is unclear at this point what is going to happen," L.A. City Attorney's Office spokesman Frank Mateljan tells E! News. "It is 1:21 [p.m. on Friday] and we have still not been contacted by the court. We do plan on getting in touch with the probation department. And once we have all the necessary information, we will make the necessary decision at that point."

Ex-Wife Claimed Abuse, Instability: Salon Suspect's

Scott Dekraai's neighbors considered him one of the friendliest guys on the block, a man who invited them over for pool parties and played catch with his son in his yard. Friends of his ex-wife, though, say she lived in fear of the man now accused of gunning down her and seven other people at the hair salon where she worked.
spraying the Salon Meritage with gunfire.
He suffered post-traumatic stress disorder from a 2007 tugboat accident that mangled his leg and left a colleague dead. His marriage to Michelle Fournier was falling apart even before that, and the court battle over their 7-year-old son was still raging Wednesday, when Dekraai is accused of spraying the Salon Meritage with gunfire.
Among those killed was Fournier, his ex-wife. The salon's popular owner, Randy Fannin, also died.
Fournier's boyfriend, Michael Warzybok, said that at a court hearing Tuesday a judge had pressed Dekraai to explain why he needed more time with his son than his current custody arrangement called for. Warzybok said a court-appointed psychologist had found the roughly 50-50 arrangement was working.
"All of a sudden, he didn't get his way," said Warzybok, who was interviewed by the psychologist along with Fournier's co-workers.
Dekraai had also asked Fournier to meet for coffee Wednesday, the day of the shootings, but she turned him down.
